JGC Corporation has been awarded the Hachinohe LNG Terminal Project in Aomori prefecture, Japan by JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation.

JCG will perform EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) and assistance services for commissioning work under a lump-sum turnkey scheme. The contract value was not disclosed.

The project encompasses the construction of two LNG tanks with a capacity of 140,000 cubic meters each, unloading facilities for LNG tankers, loading facilities for coastal tankers, regasification facilities, loading facilities for tank cars, etc. JGC will take charge of all EPC work excepting the LNG tank erection and part of the marine civil work.

The construction site is located at the Port Island of Hachinohe City in Japan’s Aomori prefecture. The terminal will start operation in April 2015.

Currently, more than 15% of Japan’s primary energy comes from natural gas, and demand is expected to rise in the coming years. The project will be the 28th LNG import terminal constructed in Japan.

JGC has been a pioneer in the construction of LNG liquefaction plants in many countries around the world, and has been involved in construction of more than one third of the LNG receiving terminal facilities in Japan. JGC continues to be pleased to contribute to world energy security by providing engineering services to suit a wide variety of client needs.
