Declared Norway’s Ship of the Year 2010 by Rikke Linde, Minister for Trade & Industry, at the recent SMM trade show in Hamburg last September, DOFCON ASA’s subsea service vessel, Skandi Aker, features a SAM Electronics’ NACOS 35-5 integrated navigation command system supplied by SAM’s associate L-3 Norwegian company, Valmarine.
The deepwater vessel’s NACOS assembly comprises X and S-band Chartradar 1100s with integrated operation of Trackpilot and Chartpilot Ecdis 1100 consoles in addition to conning and planning facilities. Supplementary navaids include dual Saab R4 DGPS positioning together with SAM SLS 4120 Satlog and 4630 Echosounder units.
Constructed at STX Norway Offshore’s yard in Søviknes, Norway, the 157m long multi-purpose Skandi Aker is the largest monohull subsea well intervention vessel built. Designed to carry out riser-based intervention services as well as subsea construction and installation activities at water depths down to 3,000m, the vessel is claimed to be the most advanced of its type. It is currently engaged in operations offshore West Africa.
