Dredging is a necessary activity in society’s development. Under the right circumstances dredging is also an indispensable tool for remedying past environmental interferences. By its very nature, however, the act of dredging and relocating dredged material is an environmental impact. Therefore, determining whether any planned dredging operation will have a positive or negative impact on our environment is of the utmost importance.

Evaluation of environmental impacts should examine both the short- and long-term effects, as well as the sustainability of the altered environment. During this comprehensive two-day Seminar, dredging experts and professionals present invaluable information on the interface of dredging and the environment. In addition, participants are challenged through case studies to apply this knowledge in order to get a full understanding of the scope and significance of the environmental aspects of dredging projects, the management of dredged material, and effects of environmental guidelines.

The Environmental Aspects of Dredging Seminar is a joint effort of the Stichting PostAcademisch Onderwijs (PAO) of the Delft University of Technology in co-operations with the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) and the Central Dredging Association (CEDA). The Seminar (March 10 and 11, 2011) is aimed at consultants in dredging related industries, and professionals from different governmental bodies such as municipalities, district water boards, ports and harbour authorities and central government.
