Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) specialist Dometic Marine has launched a new air-cooled system which is specifically designed for vessels and platforms that cannot operate water-cooled equipment, such as jack-up barges and rigs. Mounted on an exterior pedestal, the self contained system features corrosion-resistant components to offer a durable and robust solution, even in harsh salt-air environments.
“Water-cooled air conditioning equipment cannot be operated on vessels and platforms that are jacked-up out of the water, so air-cooled equipment is supplied for many offshore applications. The challenge here is that air-cooled equipment is typically less resilient to the effects of salt air and therefore can become corroded more easily. To overcome this, the components of our self contained air-cooled unit are specially coated to eliminate salt air corrosion. The unit is then mounted above the deck to ensure further durability and enhanced operation within the offshore environment,” comments Ed Todd, Director of National OEM Sales, Dometic Marine.
Housed within a stainless-steel chassis, the self contained system incorporates a compressor, condenser, evaporator, blower and electrical components into one robust package. To offer exceptional resilience against salt air, the condenser, evaporator coils and evaporator fans are protected by a corrosion-resistant coating. The axial condenser fan is powered by a long-life DC motor for heavy-duty applications.
The system features a Passport I/O digital control and NEMA2-rated electric box which can be remotely mounted anywhere to save space onboard. To conserve power, the system incorporates a high efficiency rotary compressor and four-row evaporator coils with efficient rifled tube and copper coils.
