For the first time, non-contacting level measurements with customary source activities on extremely thick-walled vessels are possible using the new Super-Sens Detectors from BERTHOLD TECHNOLOGIES.

The high detection sensitivity of the Super-Sens Detector allows the use of very low source activities for containers with normal or of small wall thicknesses.

For existing systems that are retrofitted with the Super-Sens Detector, an existing source life can be extended which allows for real cost savings over replacing and disposing of the source. Due to the outstanding sensitivity of the unit, the Super-Sens Detector also enables the use of smaller source shieldings and smaller control ranges for new applications.

According to the new radiation protection regulations from 2002, a strong shielding is required in most cases for a necessary source exchange at an existing installation. However, should the retrofit be performed using the Super-Sens Detector, the existing installation can still be used. This retrofit doubles the useful life time of the existing source!

For thin walled or small containers requiring special low active sources, “Exempt-Sources” that are license free in the USA and in Japan can be used without loss of sensitivity.

The exceptionally high sensitivity of the detector is achieved by means of a large volume scintillation counter (150mm x 150mm). Thanks to the integrated detector shielding, the Super-Sens detector is insensitive to external radiation in comparison to unshielded detectors. At the same time, the signal to noise ratio is increased which further increases the sensitivity and effectiveness of the detector.

By means of a 2-wire supply cable, the measuring signal of the Super-Sens detector is transferred to the evaluation unit. Using the standard DIN flange, the detector can be easily attached to a vessel or a pipeline. All BERTHOLD TECHNOLOGIES Detectors are available with an Ex-registration meeting ATEX approval.

BERTHOLD TECHNOLOGIES is a leader in non-contacting radioactive level measurement technology. The new Super Sens Detector combines a highly sensitive measurement instrument enclosed in a package which will stand up to the most rugged of process conditions.
