Draka Offshore announced today The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) has once again selected Draka as their subsea power cable provider with a further purchase of cables and logistical solutions.

“It is always exciting to receive new orders, but to quickly receive a second order from a new customer is extremely satisfying,” stated Martin Dale, commercial director for subsea for Draka Offshore. “We strive to provide our customers with the best quality and service and the repeat order from EMEC validates our commitment to performance and partnership.”

The new contract requires Draka to deliver 5,000 meters of 20kV subsea power cable to the EMEC wave and tidal test site in Orkney.

Award Winning Performance:

As the first of its kind, EMEC provides test facilities for a wide range of technologies that can tap into the huge potential of wave and tidal renewable energy. Wave power alone has an estimated global potential of approximately 1,000-10,000 GW — in the same order of magnitude as the world’s electricity consumption, according to the World Offshore Renewable Energy Report 2004-2008 published by UK Renewables.

“Our project to expand our test facilities in 2010 was recognized by Tidal Today at the recent 4th International Tidal Summit and Awards held in London. We were awarded the most effective tidal energy project development of the year,” stated Stuart Baird, EMEC Operations Director. “Draka’s overall performance and quality product along with coordination by Global Marine and J+S was instrumental in helping us win this award.”
