The Port of Milford Haven – the third largest port in the UK by volume and the biggest in Wales, announced that during 2010 the Port handled 65.6 million gross tons of shipping, up from 59 million tons in 2009. Cargo throughput is estimated at 42 million tonnes. Whilst the increase is largely attributable to the growth in LNG traffic to South Hook and Dragon, other sectors also contributed to this growth.
Alec Don, Chief Executive of Milford Haven Port Authority said : “The level of throughput is a reflection of the vibrant trading environment and opportunities that exist at the Port of Milford Haven, particularly in the energy sector.
“With deep water and proximity to the Atlantic, Milford Haven is beginning to achieve its potential as an investment location for the clean energy industries of the future”.
