Sempra Energy announced that Alan L. Boeckmann has been elected to the company’s board of directors.

“Alan Boeckmann has a strong background in international business management, construction and engineering that will complement our board of directors well,” said Donald E. Felsinger, chairman and chief executive officer of Sempra Energy . “We are pleased to have him join our board.”

Boeckmann, 62, currently serves as the non-executive chairman of the board of directors for Fluor Corp. From 2002 to 2011, he was the chairman and chief executive officer of the company. Prior to that, Boeckmann held several senior management and operating positions at Fluor.

He also is a director of BHP Billiton and a board member for the National Petroleum Council. Boeckmann holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona.

Sempra Energy now has a total of 12 board members. Boeckmann will serve on the board’s Compensation and Corporate Governance committees.

Sempra Energy, based in San Diego, is a Fortune 500 energy services holding company with 2009 revenues of more than $8 billion. The Sempra Energy companies’ 13,800 employees serve about 25 million consumers worldwide.
