Strategic Marine has won a contract to supply a 27-metre work barge to service the energy and resources sector in Western Australia’s north-west.
The vessel, being built for Karratha business Offshore Plant Hire, will be based in the Port of Dampier and be chartered to marine operations company Bhagwan Marine. It will service the areas around Dampier, Onslow and Barrow Island and be used primarily for port upgrades, construction support, mooring maintenance and shallow water dive operations.
Chief Marketing Officer Terry O’Connor said the new contract highlighted the shipbuilder’s growing reputation for providing quality vessels at competitive prices, backed-up with through-life maintenance support.
“ We believe the people who build the product should be responsible for ensuring its efficient and safe lifetime operation through exemplary service and long-term maintenance support ,” Mr O’Connor said.
“ Strategic Marine has consistently delivered cost effective projects from its offshore shipyards, while maintaining a strong mix of Australian input and content management to ensure a build quality second to none.”
Mr O’Connor said increasing Strategic Marine’s presence in the north-west region of Western Australia was a key element in the company’s growth strategy for the next five years.
“ Our ability to supply Australian shipbuilding expertise out of South East Asia supported by our local organisation in West Australia are critical factors in our success and continued momentum in the Australian energy and resources sector.
“This momentum will see us providing shipbuilding, ship repair, towage and heavy fabrication services to a number of key players throughout the region ,” he said.
In addition to the above, Strategic Marine’s current projects in the north-west region include construction of work barges for Leighton Contractors and tug pens for Woodside and a range of ship repairs for international ship operators engaged in providing services for the Gorgon Project.
