The entire maritime industry benefits of the course ‘Onboard Noise and Vibration’ which is a joint initiative of HME in cooperation with the well known Dutch research institutes MARIN and TNO. The international training takes place in Delft, the Netherlands, on 24 and 25 May 2011. This training is of interest to engineers, naval architects, R&D managers and instructors.
Reduce noise and vibrations The training aims to link theory to daily practice and trains employees in the principles of noise and vibrations. Having the knowledge on these subjects, means having the ability to reduce them. And that is of increasing importance to the international shipping and shipbuilding industry. They like to gain more knowledge on the impact on ships, ship systems and its environment.
The fast development and implementation of electronics on board is one of the aspects initiating the demand for knowledge. The same applies for ships experiencing structural cracks due to vibrations, having severe consequences for both the (marine) environment and the safety of those on board. And more over, as noise and vibrations are tiring for a ship’s crew, it can have its impact on safety as well.
Unique knowledge transfer The program is developed and adjusted to the needs as expressed by the industry and deals with the origin and prevention of noise and vibrations on board. The cooperation with MARIN and TNO offers the unique possibility to realise knowledge transfer between research institutes and the international marine industry, including small and medium sized enterprises. A successful concept according to the variety of international companies that already participated in one of the previous courses. From single man companies to big multinationals, equipment suppliers, ship owners, shipyards and leading class societies. They indicated that the training met their expectations or even exceeded it.
Because of its international setting, the training offers companies an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and to network with colleagues, clients and/or suppliers. It enables them to position themselves even better as partner in the international shipbuilding process.
