Leading international oilfield services company Expro announces that its fluids laboratory in Den Helder, Holland, has been awarded ISO/IEC 17025, the prestigious accreditation for the determination of mineral oil in water.

The laboratory is the only one in the region of North Holland to receive this level of accreditation. This achievement is evidence of Expro’s commitment to providing a quality service to the industry.

ISO/IEC 17025 is a prestigious international laboratory accreditation program. It is formal recognition of the technical competence of a laboratory to carry out specific tests, allowing customers to be confident that the service provided is of the highest quality.

Waste water analysis

In addition to the testing of oil and gas wells, Expro’s fluids team specialises in the analysis of waste water that is produced by a large number of oil and gas producing platforms in the North Sea. The method used to analyse and measure the amount of oil remaining in the water is in accordance with OSPAR Reference Method 2005-15.

The accreditation is additional to the certifications, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, SCT/ VCU 2007/04, SCC/VCA**2008/05 and OHSAS 18001:2007, which are also in place at the laboratory.

Erroll Spruit Bleeker, Expro’s Den Helder Head of Laboratory / Production Manager, said: “Expro decided in August 2009 to strive toward the accreditation of the laboratory to the ISO/IEC 17025 standards. This is an international norm where the quality management system of the laboratory and the technical competency of the laboratory technicians are recognised. When a laboratory is allowed to display the Quality Logo, this represents a high quality guarantee and is a business card for its customers.

“The acquisition of the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation has been a tremendous investment of time and money. The complete dedication of the team has resulted in, as of January 2011, a positive rating from the Dutch Accreditation Council regarding the laboratory quality management system and technical competency of its laboratory technicians.

Keith Palmer, Expro’s Europe CIS Region Director , said: “This accreditation makes Expro the first and only commercial laboratory in the region that is accredited with the ISO/IEC 17025.

“All members of the lab team showed a determined and dedicated approach to acquiring this endorsement. The average period for a laboratory to obtain this is between 24 and 36 months and this team received it in only 16 months – showing what can be achieved with hard work.”
