Petrobras’ Executive Manager for Exploration & Production Engineering (E&P), Solange Guedes, participated in the second day of the Regional Conference ARPEL 2011 – Sustainable Energy Development. In a plenary session held in Punta del Este, Uruguay yesterday (03/30), Solange emphasized Petrobras’ commitment to operating safety issues: “The company has built an environment focused on continuous learning and incorporates, every day, the internal and external lessons learned based on process safety and focused on accident prevention.”
She also detailed the main objectives of the Program for the Enhancement of Maritime Operation Safety, which Petrobras created in 2010: “Well safety, submarine contingency technology, and continuous response preparedness improvements are issues that are connected with the company’s General Contingency Plan.” She also noted that Petrobras owns the biggest fleet among all companies that have deepwater operations, drilling an average of 120 wells per year and running 50 offshore rigs.
In a plenary session on Latin American integration in the energy market, Lauro Valdir de Souza, Petrobras’ Manager for Strategic Analysis, highlighted the importance of training to address issues such as climate change and safety.
Petrobras’ Manager for Product Quality, Rodrigo Abramof, participated in the session on economic sustainability and the future of the refining sector. “Petrobras’ strategy is to expand its refining capacity in Brazil in order to meet the demand of the domestic market and even of other markets, operating in a safe, environmentally sustainable manner,” said the executive.
Another theme that was highlighted during the conference was environmental management in the region. Petrobras’ manager for Performance in Safety, the Environment, Energy Efficiency, and Health, Luis Cesar Stano, wrapped up the company’s participation in the event: “It is essential to integrate HSE (health, safety, and environment) issues into the enterprises’ processes, into developing and assessing projects, and into the management practices and processes. By doing this, it is possible to achieve a substantial improvement in safety and sustainability issues,” he said.
