International engineering contractor Offshore Design Engineering Ltd (ODE) has been awarded a new six-figure contract by Burntisland Fabricators (BiFab) to provide the engineering and design of two substation platforms for a wind farm off the North Wales coast.

ODE will produce the detailed design of the jacket and primary steel design as well as the secondary and tertiary structure of the substations for NPower Renewables’ Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm.

BiFab are responsible for the design, supply and fabrication of jacket foundations for the substation platforms.

ODE chairman and managing director, Peter Godfrey , said: “ After the success of providing BiFab with detailed engineering and design of the Greater Gabbard wind farm transformer jackets and the Ormonde SSP substructure design, we are delighted to be working with our partners once again. We have already made a start on the basic engineering and are collaborating with the various third parties to ensure the design is optimised.”

Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm Limited was set up by Npower Renewables Limited and will develop a site 13km offshore from the North Wales coast stretching from Prestatyn to Colwyn Bay. The new wind farm will consist of 160, 3.6MW wind turbine generators with a gross output of 576MW.
