Recently, DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) held a ceremony for naming the first 400,000 DWT VLOC in the world. This newbuilding vessel is the largest bulk carrier in the world, with length of 360 meters, width of 65 meters and depth of 30.4 meters, and the order was signed in October of 2009.

It took only 17 months for DSME to complete this VLOC, however, it’s reported that RSHI (Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd) who attained the order of 12 same type VLOCs in October 2008, will probably delay these series vessels for at least 6 months. Since 2009, DMSE has won an order of 7 VLOCs with the tonnage of 400,000 DWT, and the first vessel has been successfully constructed. Two or more of the sister ships will be constructed this year, and the rest are scheduled to be delivered in 2013.
