Kish gas field reservoir holds more than 70 trillion cubic feet of gas and it is thought the exact figure to be higher, the managing director of Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Naji Sadouni announced.

He went on to say that development of three phases of Kish gas field had been awarded to a consortia consisting of Iran’s Bank Mellat and some domestic companies noting the consortia’s activities would be publicized in near future, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

“Drilling operations of the first well at the gas field started in February 2010 and it is predicted drilling of the first phase wells to be completed in near future” , he said.

It’s worth mentioning that the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) plans to launch the first phase of the Kish gas field before the end of the Fifth Five Year Development Plan in 2015 by initial production of 20 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Production of 15 thousand barrels of gas condensate, 970 million cubic feet of light sweet gas and 4 tons of sulfur per day are the other targets of Kish gas field development.

With regard to the ideal location of the Kish gas field for exporting gas, the development of this field is one of the most important projects of the country.

Under the negotiations with the Persian Gulfcountries, it is scheduled part of the gas produced in Kish to be transferred toOman through a 200 kilometers gas pipeline
