Floating wind farms, ocean wave power, hydrofracking, and the state of climate science will be among the featured discussions at NYIT’s sixth annual Energy Conference on Thursday, June 2 at the NYIT de Seversky Mansion in Old Westbury.
The conference, “Beyond Carbon: OffShore Energy and Technologies,” brings together government, business, industry, and academic experts from NYIT and other universities. The group of energy specialists will examine moving away from carbon-based fuels to cleaner – though often controversial – alternative energy sources.
“This timely one-day conference will explore the fundamental science and cutting edge applications of various clean technologies for Long Island and the Northeast,” said Nada Anid, Ph.D., NYIT’s dean of the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. “The conference should be of equal interest to venture capitalists, the scientific community, policy makers and the general public in the NY Metropolitan area and beyond.”
This year’s conference comes as New Yorkers grapple with gas prices that have surpassed $4 a gallon. NYIT experts in alternative energy are available immediately for interviews. They include:
* Robert N. Amundsen, director of the master’s in energy management program
* Greg Banhazi, director of business development and special projects and a 25-year veteran of private industry alternate energy development.

A forum for green debates for the past five years in New York and globally (China and South Korea) and the birthplace of the first hybrid car in 1973 and the first solar carport on Long Island in 2009, NYIT is a local and global leader in clean energy initiatives.
