Today, the Norwegian government recommended the plans for development and operation (PDO) of the Ekofisk and Eldfisk fields. The project plans (Ekofisk South and Eldfisk II) submitted to the Storting (parliament) today entails investments of about NOK 65 billion.

– Ekofisk is the oldest field complex in operation on the Norwegian continental shelf. It has been in production for 40 years, and with this decision we pave the way for 40 new years , says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Mr Ola Borten Moe.

The fields are located in the southern part of the North Sea, around 300 km from the Norwegian coast.

The PDO for Ekofisk South includes the drilling of 44 new wells. The PDO for Eldfisk II includes 42 new wells. The projects will increase recovery from the Ekofisk and Eldfisk fields by more than 470 million barrels of oil equivalent by 2028.
