On the final day of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) Conference in Dubai, Ron Gilliland, RasGas Subsurface Group Manager delivered a speech outlining how recent developments at RasGas and for the State of Qatar has lead to a shift in focus for the company.

December 2010 marked a major milestone in both RasGas’ and Qatar’s history, as the nation’s production capacity of 77 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum was achieved, of which RasGas produces around 37 million tonnes. With LNG production stable and all LNG Trains now fully operational, Mr Gilliland explained how RasGas is transitioning from a “development” company to a “production and sustainment” company with an emphasis on reliability across all aspects of its business.

Speaking on behalf of RasGas in front of an international audience of over 100 drilling contractors, Mr Gilliland said: “ RasGas has reached a new stage in the company’s life and with this comes a new set of challenges. The safe and reliable production and delivery of LNG to our customers worldwide is essential, as RasGas’ customers demand certainty .”

“ To remain the LNG supplier of choice, it is paramount for RasGas to continue a focus on sustainability and reliability of our services and products, and this is why RasGas has a long-running history of excellence in operational procedures, logistics, safety and deliverability. Achieving these high standards has been no easy task considering the scale of our operations. ” he added.

The IADC conference took place in Dubai last week and was attended by thought-leaders in the field of drilling. The theme of this year’s conference was “Critical Issues in the Middle East,” with RasGas participating as part of its commitment to reach out to the energy community and represent Qatar in this international forum for discussion.
