On the morning of May 15th 2011, the vessel “Hong Master” departed from CIC Lixin Shipyard, four days ahead of contractual schedule, the ship owners were quite satisfied with the result.
The vessel is from a friendly partner of the shipyard, Ningbo Hongyuan Ship Management Company. In 2010, the shipyard finished three conversions of the vessels from the container to the bulk carrier from this company, and now there are still two more such projects in progress. The captured vessel was the first one to be converted from the tanker to the bulk carrier, which is LOA181.6m. Beam30m. and Depth 18.4m.. The major works included doublers to the tank top, newly fabricating of tween deck and center girder, new hatch coamings, upper & lower total 64 pieces hatch covers and portside & starboard hydraulic operation system; installing four new deck cranes and removal of three corrugated bulkheads and reused as upper middle longitudinal bulkhead; original cargo lines removing and pumping room conversion; newly installing of an A/E and renewing a boiler in engine room. The whole conversion concerned the renewal of about 2,900 tons steel plates and reuse of about 500 tons original steel structure.
In the first half this year, the production of the shipyard has been quite busy as well as the wharf and docks continuing in fully operation, Lixin Shipyard had fully coordinated different resources and overcome all kinds of difficulties and disadvantages to insure the departure of MV Hong Master on time, which was highly appreciated by the ship owners, proving the abilities of the ship conversion and service qualities once again of the shipyard which has laid the strong foundations for accomplishing the annual goal.
