Alu Design & Services AS, the leading supplier of pilot chairs and deck rails to the marine, navy, offshore and commercial industries, has launched a new range of low profile deck rails. The new deck rails have been designed and developed in direct response to demand from customers who have requested rails that feature a lower build height and lighter weight. These new versions will complement Alu Design’s traditional range of deck rails.
The deck rails come in two types – flush mounted or top-mounted. The flush-mounted version requires a recess built into the flooring of just 11mm, meaning that the problems of having enough space below the flooring are removed, greatly facilitating installation. Alternatively, the top-mounted version has a raised profile of just 16mm. Due to this low height, this design provides a much safer working environment, particularly when compared to other rails.
Commenting on these new additions to the company’s product range, Einar Ulrichsen, CEO, Alu Design , stated: “ We have used the same construction method for these new decks rails as our traditional models, but they feature a far lower profile. This will be a major advantage for the installation of the flush-mounted rails, as well as being far safer in the top-mounted format as they are less likely to be an operational obstruction to those working around the pilot chair. First deliveries have already begun to Norwegian yards and the feedback to date has been highly positive. The new deck rail series will shortly be available to all territories .”
The deck rails feature a rounded profile, with no sharp edges. They are delivered as one piece, giving great advantage over other systems.

Because our traditional deck rails are approved according to high speed code, they will remain in our range.
