RenewableUK has signed a joint statement of understanding with the Countryside Council for Wales at its fifth annual conference yesterday, forging a closer working relationship.
The agreement underpins how the two organisations will work together on their shared ambition to achieve renewable energy targets for Wales whilst minimising the impact on Wales’ natural environment.
The joint statement was be signed by the Chief Executive of CCW, Roger Thomas, and the Chief Executive of RenewableUK, Maria McCaffery, at a short event being held as part of RenewableUK Cymru’s fifth annual conference in Cardiff
Maria McCaffery, Chief Executive of RenewableUK , said:
“This Statement of Opinion is an important milestone in our relationship with the Countryside Council for Wales. It is a significant first step in further collaboration between our organisations on our shared overall objective of looking after the environment.”
The agreement features a commitment by CCW and RenewableUK to work together to discuss energy project proposals, helping to steer the process and resolve issues at an early stage to avoid conflict later on.
Morgan Parry, CCW Chairman , said:
“This partnership approach is fundamentally important to ensure that the most suitable technologies are deployed in the most suitable locations, to reach renewable energy targets whilst minimising impacts on our natural heritage. I am delighted to formalise CCW and RenewableUK’s constructive approach to working towards such important outcomes.”
At the RenewableUK Cymru conference yesterday First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM, outlined the Welsh Government’s energy policy in his keynote speech, and was joined by Cheryl Gillan MP, Secretary of State for Wales, who also addressed delegates.
