Gazprom commissioned the Dzhubga – Lazarevskoye – Sochi gas pipeline yesterday. Sochi hosted the celebrations devoted to this event participated by Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, representatives of construction and contracting companies, and public organizations.
“Gazprom was tasked to ensure energy supply to the Olympic venues and rapidly growing infrastructure of the Black Sea coast. At the same time, it was critically important to keep the ecosystem intact in the coastal area where millions of tourists go on holiday every year.
Gazprom has successfully accomplished this task. A unique facility of the Unified Gas Supply System was constructed, Dzhubga – Lazarevskoye – Sochi, the first submerged gas pipeline in Russia.
The gas pipeline will allow actively developing the gasification of Sochi and the Tuapse District of the Krasnodar Krai, increasing the living standards of the population and giving a powerful impetus to the resort business development, particularly enabling transition of the Black Sea health resorts to year-round operation.
The Adler CHPS will be among gas consumers satisfying over one-third of the forecasted peak demand during the Olympic Games,” Alexey Miller said in his speech to the audience.
Background
The Dzhubga – Lazarevskoye – Sochi gas pipeline has been included into the Program approved by the Russian Federation Government and aimed at construction of the Olympic facilities and development of Sochi as a mountain-climatic resort.
The pipeline construction was launched in September 2009.
The gas pipeline stretches for 171.6 kilometers with 90 per cent offshore. The pipeline runs on the Black Sea bottom some 4.5 kilometers off the coast.
The gas pipeline landfalls are located near Dzhubga, Novomikhailovsky, Tuapse (two) and Kudepsta population centers. The Dzhubga-1, Dzhubga-2, Novomikhailovskaya and Tuapse automated gas distribution stations have been constructed so far.
The 530-millimeter gas pipeline will have the annual throughput capacity of some 3.8 billion cubic meters.
The Adler CHPS has been included in the Program for the Olympic facilities construction and development of Sochi as a mountain-climatic resort. The Adler CHPS is to be commissioned in 2012 according to the Olympic facilities construction schedule. The 360 MW combined heat and power station will become a key power generating facility in Sochi and adjacent areas.
