Narec has taken receipt of the first of the rolled ‘cans’ for the tripod foundation structure of its offshore monitoring platform, part of the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project.

Fabricated by McNulty Offshore Construction Limited on the River Tyne, the installation of the complete platform structure is expected to occur in the early Autumn of this year. When operational, the offshore monitoring facility will provide the development team with wind speed and environmental data for inclusion in the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Project EIA application.

It can also provide the necessary validation for future testing programmes on installed wind turbine prototype machines.
