The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) will collaborate with the UK’s largest provider of maritime higher education, the University of Plymouth, to develop and offer new programs in the field of maritime sciences, under the terms of a new Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement was signed yesterday by Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of HCT and Professor Richard Gibb, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Plymouth.
Under the terms of the agreement the two institutions will explore ways of establishing a mutually beneficial strategic partnership in maritime education and research and specifically collaborate in launching a degree in Applied Maritime Science.
Furthermore the signatories will collaborate to support the development of applied marine research to support the UAE’s national interests.
Dr Kamali said the HCT was pleased to be working closely with the University of Plymouth, as one of Europe’s most influential and respected centres of marine excellence, to investigate the new programs.
“The Higher Colleges is well-known for partnering with industry leaders from around the world to provide the best quality programs for its students and we have identified there is a strong demand to provide bachelor-level programs in the vital area of maritime sciences in the UAE,” Dr Kamali said.
“We are very interested to explore opportunities in the fields of naval operations and maritime sciences with a renowned and historic maritime institution such as the University of Plymouth which will assist us to develop the next generation of highly-skilled leaders in these disciplines,” Dr Kamali added.
