Noble Energy Inc. is due to begin exploratory drilling in Cyprus’s offshore Block 12 in September, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides has announced.
On Friday, the cabinet granted the company permission to drill in Cypriot waters and use the company’s rig currently in Israel, which should become available in August.
In February a company delegation headed by Gerhart met with President Christofias at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of Paschalides, during which they discussed the issue at hand.
Noble Energy received an exploratory license for Block 12 in October 2008, which is located in Cyprus`s exclusive economic zone. The block borders Leviathan, in Israel`s exclusive economic zone, and may be part of the same geologic structure in the Levant Basin.
