Thirteen community projects around Gladstone will get more than $400,000 from QGC’s Sustainable Communities Fund.
The fund was set up by QGC, developer of the Queensland Curtis LNG Project, as part of the company’s contribution to community programs from Gladstone to the Surat Basin.
QGC’s Vice President, Corporate, Brett Smith , said the money was allocated from the first round of community applications to the $6 million fund.
“ Applicants were assessed by a panel of community and company representatives and focused on a wide range of key community needs ,” Mr Smith said.
“ The fund supports short-term, one-off projects that reinforce community cohesion and enhance the liveability of communities within QGC’s area of operation .
“ The investment is part of QGC’s broader contribution to local communities from Gladstone to the Western Downs where we have a desire to ensure our projects enhance the lives of the many Queenslanders they involve .”
Gladstone Grants Assessment Panel member Councillor Maxine Brushe said being involved in the program really was a case of the community working together to enhance the capability of community organisations.
“ As a community member of the Grants Assessment Panel, it was pleasing to see the number and diversity of applications for project funding in the first round of QGC’s Sustainable Community Fund ,” Cr Brushe said.
“ Whether in social support, sporting or community development fields, our not-for-profit organisations work tirelessly to create enormous community benefit and it is pleasing to be able to support their efforts through the fund .”
Gladstone and District Respite Care Association will use its funding to upgrade the kitchen at its Mainstay respite facility.
Association spokeswoman Karen Leinster said the improvements would give staff and guests a contemporary facility in which to develop skills and boost confidence.
“ The new kitchen, suitable for all levels of ability, will provide a safe and welcoming environment for guests to nurture skills which can be transferred to other living arrangements ,” Mrs Leinster said.
