Petrobras has started producing oil in Aruanã – an area located in the post-salt layer of the southern part of the Campos Basin – from well 1-RJS-661 in block C-M-401.

The Cidade de Rio das Ostras FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading platform), in operation at the site, will produce up to 12,000 barrels of oil per day, limited to the capacity of the equipment used.

The test on well 1-RJS-661 is part of the Discovery Assessment Plan (DAP) approved by the ANP for developing the area. Exploratory block C-M-401 is located between the Pampo and Espadarte fields, and ocean depths range from 350 to 1500 meters. Formation tests carried out after well 1-RJS-661 was drilled, in March 2009, showed evidence of 27° API oil and recoverable volumes of around 280 million barrels of oil.

The Aruanã EWT is slated to last approximately six months. The information obtained in the process will assist in studies aimed at characterizing the reservoir rock, fluids, and the productive potential of the oil accumulations in the block.
