OMV Gets Approval to Drill Well 6407/5-2S in Norwegian Sea

OMV (Norge) AS (OMV) has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 6407/5-2S in the Norwegian Sea with the Borgland Dolphin mobile facility. The well will be drilled in production licence 471, with OMV as the operator (50%). The other licensees are Norwegian Energy Company ASA (30%)

OMV (Norge) AS (OMV) has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 6407/5-2S in the Norwegian Sea with the Borgland Dolphin mobile facility.

The well will be drilled in production licence 471, with OMV as the operator (50%). The other licensees are Norwegian Energy Company ASA (30%) and Sagex Petroleum Norge AS (20%).

The well is located in the Norwegian Sea, 26 kilometres northwest of Draugen. The closest distance to land is approx. 100 kilometres (Frøya in Sør-Trøndelag).

The well has the following geographical coordinates: N 64° 34’ 48.7”, E 07° 37’ 11.9”. The water depth at the site is 230 metres.

The activity has a planned duration of 52 to 71 days, depending on the drilling result.

Borgland Dolphin is a type Aker H-3 semi-submersible mobile facility which was built as a flotel at Bergen Mekaniske Verksted in 1976.

In 1999, it was modified into a mobile drilling facility at Harlan and Wolff Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Ltd. in Belfast.
