BMT Nigel Gee Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, the leading international maritime design and engineering consultancy, celebrates 25 years of innovative vessel design this year.

Established as Nigel Gee and Associates Ltd in June 1986, by Nigel Gee and John Bonafoux, the company is recognised as one of the world’s leading naval architecture and marine design consultancies, providing a comprehensive service from concept through to detailed production design. Starting from a very successful design portfolio for high speed passenger catamaran ferries, including the world’s fastest passenger ferry and expanding into the yacht, naval and offshore oil and gas sectors, the company has a proud history of innovative vessels designs, over 150 of which have been constructed.

The company’s designs have included Sir David Brown’s MY Chief Flying Sun – a ground breaking foil assisted high speed catamaran yacht; a fleet of 10 x 220m high speed container vessels carrying 1430 TEU at 27 knots; the US Navy’s 80m, 60 knot Sea Fighter; a fleet of ultra-low wash passenger catamaran ferries for Amsterdam, as well as Wightlink’s new passenger ferries that save 40% CO2 compared to their predecessors.

Having joined the BMT group in 2003, the company has continued to expand and has now diversified further into the design of offshore wind support vessels. The company strives to meet all the demanding requirements from its extensive portfolio of customers that range from individual clients, fleet operators, marine developers and shipyards resulting in an enviable reputation for exceeding client expectations.

John Bonafoux, founding member and now Managing Director at BMT Nigel Gee, comments: “Seeing the company grow and mature over the past 25 years has been a great experience. Our core capability in the design of innovative, high performance vessels has allowed us to work across different markets, providing exciting and interesting work for our staff. This has helped us to maintain a strong and loyal workforce, many of whom have been here nearly as long as I have. I’d like to thank all of the team for their dedication and support which has contributed to the company’s success and I am sure they will continue to help us meet future challenges.”
