On 5-7 July 2011, the Danish Maritime Authority participated in a meeting of the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) Fund.

At the meeting, the ongoing compensation cases were discussed, including a possible agreement – a so-called global settlement – with the parties to the ERIKA case. Furthermore, the discussions on how to handle cases with many claims for rather small amounts were continued.

The IOPC Funds is an international compensation scheme the purpose of which is to pay compensation to those who have suffered an economic loss as a consequence of oil spill from tankers. The Danish Maritime Authority takes part in the meetings of the Fund.

The next IOPC meeting will be held from 24 to 28 October 2011. The next working group meeting will be held in the spring of 2012.
