Turku Repair Yard which is a subsidiairy of the concern BLRT Grupp upgraded once again a scientific ship for expeditions Akademik Fjodorov which participates in research of the Arctic.
During works that continued for 30 days special geophysical equipment for seismic sounding of sea bottom contour and researching the Arctic was installed in the ship. “All project works beginning with design study and ending with installation of all units were performed under the guidance of our specialists in cooperation with Canadian company Marine Services International Ltd and American company ION-GXT Imaging Solutions ,” explained the project manager Anatoliy Gruba . “The works that were performed on time and with good quality confirmed that we are capable to perform such orders at a proper level ,” he added.
After the works were finished the ship headed off from Finland with Russian expedition to the Arctic where by convoying of atom-powered ship Rossiya it proceeds to explore prepolar regions of Arctic Ocean. American specialists will assist in use of the new equipment. Expedition trip to the Arctic of the flagship of polar fleet is exercised by order of Russia’s Federal Agency for Subsoil Management. The ship belongs to Russian Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute.
It is not the first time Turku Repair Yard welcomes the ship Akademik Fjodorov – last year Norwegian equipment Kongsberg for exploration of sea bottom and sea shelf was installed here. In September of 2011 Akademik Fjodorov will return for dismantling of installed equipment.
Turku Repair Yard is a ship repair yard that was established in 1989 and since 2007 is a part of the concern BLRT Grupp AS. The ship repair yard has the biggest dry dock in North Europe (265m х70m). Every year about 65 big projects are performed here.
The concern BLRT Grupp consists of 66 subsidiaries and 13 joint ventures that operate in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Norway, Russia, Poland and Ukraine. The main branches of activity are shipbuilding, ship repair, production of high-technology metal structures, machine building, processing of scrap metal, stevedoring and port service, and metal and industrial gases trading.
