Cooperation and ongoing projects were at the centre of talks yesterday between DP World Chairman HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem and UK Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Stephen Green, at the company’s Head Office in Jebel Ali.

Lord Green, who is currently on an official visit to the UAE, toured the Jebel Ali Port and free zone to learn about the skills and experience the company brings to the UK at its terminals in the new London Gateway Port and Logistics Park being constructed in Essex, UK. He praised the rapid rise of DP World as the third largest marine terminal operator in the world.

The UK Minister for Trade and Investment was accompanied on the tour by Mr Bin Sulayem, HE Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, UAE Ambassador to the UK, Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Joint Vice Chairman, DP World, Mohammed Sharaf, Chief Executive Officer, DP World, Mohammed AI Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, and other senior officials and delegates of the British team.

The visiting UK Minister for Trade and Investment expressed interest in the advanced technology-driven operational efficiencies of Jebel Ali Port and the close relations between Britain and the UAE that underpin iconic DP World investments such as the London Gateway project.

Lord Stephen Green , UK Minister for Trade and Investment, said:

“I was impressed with my visit to Jebel Ali Port. DP World has already made an important contribution to UK infrastructure and is creating new jobs, skills and offering new ways to enhance the efficiency of supply chains.”

HE Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem , Chairman, DP World, said:

“It is an honour to receive Lord Green at our flagship Jebel Ali facility, which reflects the kind of expertise and investment strategy that we apply to our projects worldwide including our UK operations. We showed the Minister how our passion for customer service has led us to become a global leader in the port industry.”

London Gateway is set to be one of the world’s most efficient and productive container ports situated alongside a new world class logistics park on a 600 hectare site just 40 kilometres east of central London. Some 600 construction staff are now onsite building essential infrastructure for the project, which has already won awards for its environmental initiatives. It is the single largest job creation project in the UK today and will deliver 36,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The new development will provide cheaper and more efficient supply chains for importers and exporters though a unique combination of a superior location to hinterland markets and port-centric benefits.
