For the first time, the Offshore Energy conference program will offer a session on unconventional gas. On Wednesday afternoon, October 12th speakers from Baker Hughes, Cuadrilla Resources Nederland , EBN and the University of Groningen will discuss the world wide potential for unconventional gas, possible meanings for the Netherlands’ energy future, and technological developments. This session is intended for professionals in the oil and gas industry that want to learn more about this new development: the focus of this session is on sharing knowledge.
The broad term unconventional gas is used to describe a.o.: coal bed methane, tight gas and shale gas. Following successful exploitation in the United States, there is increasing European interest in this potential “game changer”. With the development of unconventional gas, world gas reserves may double; however there are high costs involved. Therefore, current unconventional gas exploitation almost never takes place offshore.
The session is organized as part of the two-day conference program taking place in the Amsterdam RAI on October 11th and 12th, parallel to Offshore Energy, the leading, international offshore event in the Netherlands. On the first day, offshore professionals can join the Global Energy Outlook Conference, the Deepwater Gas Conference or short topical sessions on Offshore Wind and Heavy Lift. Moreover, in the afternoon a meeting of the NOGEPA/IRO Drilling and Wells cluster will take place. This side event is free of charge, but registration is required.
On October12th, the Upstream Innovation Conference is programmed in the morning as well as topical sessions on Wave & Tidal Energy, Deep Sea Mining and Unconventional Gas. In the afternoon, IRO and Decom Northsea will host a free seminar on decommissioning (registration required).
