The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Jakarta, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Innovation Norway co-organized the seminar “Maximizing the value of Indonesian Gas in Co-operation with Norway” at Hotel Borobudur on 5th October 2011.
Dr. Evita H. Legowo, Director General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources , and Ms. Gunn Ovesen, CEO and President of Innovation Norway opened the seminar in front of some 70 participants.
Welcoming the participants, the Norwegian Ambassador said: “ Norway and Indonesia last year celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations, and the energy sector is in particular one of the areas where our strong relationship thrives, and with a great potential for even further growth. ”
Norway has built up substantial expertise and technology within the gas sectors, being the second largest supplier of gas to the European market, and having the world’s fifth biggest commercial fleet with 50% of it catering to the offshore sector. As in Europe, gas will have a prominent place in Indonesia’s energy mix for many decades to come. LNG has come up as an interesting energy source and this is an area where Norway is a world leader in terms of technology, equipment and industrial players throughout the entire LNG value chain.
Echoing this Pertamina, MIGAS, BPHMIGAS, PNG and the Indonesian National Ship Owners Association and other Indonesian partners were represented at a high level. Key Norwegian companies in the fields of LNG, Energy and shipping such as Höegh LNG, Golar LNG, DNV and Statoil among others represented the Norwegian side.
Several subjects in the field of LNG were addressed during the seminar. Dr. Evita H. Legowo presented a keynote address: “ Vision, Strategy and Plans for Gas Value Chains in Indonesia. ” DNV presented their latest study: “ Risks and Opportunities of Small Scale LNG Development in Indonesia. ” Höegh LNG Asia’s managing director Mr. Ragnar Wissløff talked about the “ Value Chain of LNG using Marine Solutions, ” whereas Pertamina’s representative explained how LNG will fit into the future energy plans for Indonesia. The active public asked astute questions, challenging the lecturers and panelist and ensuring good discussions throughout the event.
