Statoil Petroleum AS, operator of production licence 303, is completing drilling of wildcat well 15/8-2. The well, which was dry, was drilled eight kilometres west of the Sleipner Vest field in the North Sea.
The objective of the well was to prove petroleum in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks (Hugin and Sleipner formations). The well encountered both the Hugin and Sleipner formations. The reservoir development in the Hugin formation was better than expected, while the Sleipner formation was as expected. The well is dry. Data acquisition and sampling were carried out.
This is the seventh exploration well in production licence 303. The licence was awarded in APA 2003.The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4631 metres below the sea surface and was terminated in the Sleipner formation in the Middle Jurassic. The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The well was drilled by the COSL Pioneer drilling facility at a water depth of 119 metres. The drilling facility will proceed to the northern part of the North Sea, production licence 152, to drill wildcat well 33/12-9 S where Statoil Petroleum AS is the operator.
