Huntington Ingalls Industries announced today that the company’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division has been awarded a $13 million contract for continued work on the U.S. Navy’s Zumwalt (DDG 1000) class of destroyers. This is a modification to a previously awarded contract.
“This contract modification provides additional funding for the composite work we’re doing on the deckhouse for this shipbuilding program,” said Karrie Trauth , program manager, DDG 1000. “This is a significant program for our composite shipbuilders in Gulfport, and this award ensures the valuable expertise and technological advancements in composites continue through the detail design and construction of these ships.”
The work for this contract will provide technical and industrial engineering in the interpretation and application of the detail design to support construction and the maintenance of the ship design. Ingalls is building the deckhouse, hangar and peripheral vertical launch systems for DDG 1000 and DDG 1001, with plans to build a third.
The deckhouse for DDG 1000 is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2012.
