Aibel, a leading service company that provides engineering, construction, upgrading and maintenance solutions to the the oil, gas sector announced the successful completion of the Guara modules project.
The modules departed from Laem Chabang to Brazil on Friday.
Managing Director Jim Ryan at Aibel Thailand says everything has gone according to schedule in the project:
“It was top class delivery. Our customers Modec and Toyo have been very satisfied with our work.”
Total of 20 modules
The modules have been constructed for a floating, production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO). The FPSO is to be installed offshore on the Guara field on the east coast of Brazil.
In total Aibel is delivering 20 topside modules, or 8000 tonnes, in the contract with Modec/Toyo.
The first nine modules left for Brazil on 1 September. Five more left the yard at the end of September, and the final six on 28 October.
“The modules are transported with a “Lift on/ Lift off” vessels. It will take approximately one month to travel from Thailand to the conversion shipyard in Brazil,” Ryan explains.
Good planning
The work on the Guara modules started in September 2010. Ryan says that good planning has been the key to success:
“The delivery has been tough, but we have had accurate progress measurement throughout the project. We have completed the project without any lost time injuries”
The Guara project was the second topside module project Modec awarded Aibel. Aibel Thailand also delivered modules to the FPSO Tupi.
