More than 130 people from Surat Basin and Western Downs businesses have gathered in Chinchilla to learn how they can best meet the demands of work associated with the Queensland Curtis LNG Project being developed by QGC Pty Limited.
Representatives of 95 local companies attended the QGC Local Business Forum, held at the Chinchilla Cultural Centre on Tuesday, 8 November 2011.
Twenty QCLNG contractors, such as Thiess, Laing O’Rourke, Weatherford Drilling and Easternwell had exhibition booths at the forum and business assistance advice was provided by representatives from the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation and the Industry Capability Network.
The forum focused on so-called “upstream” work in the gas fields.
“ Upstream work relates to the network of wells, compressors, water-handling equipment and the gas pipeline that we are building from Miles to Curtis Island off Gladstone, ” said QGC’s General Manager Operations Dan McCoy .
“ QGC can’t do this alone – we need support, cooperation and service from many local companies who supply everything from drilling our wells to rubbish removal at our rig sites and building accommodation camps.
“ We are grateful for the support we’ve had so far and look forward to working with many capable Queensland companies as we bring this mega project to fruition in 2014 and beyond, ” Mr McCoy said.
The Chinchilla forum followed a similarly successful local business expo in Gladstone in June 2011.
