Cosalt Offshore, which provides lifting, tooling and marine services to the oil & gas industry, has recently ordered a second 50-tonne spooling winch from ACE Winches as part of a major investment in equipment.
The second winch, destined for Norway, was ordered following an increasingly high demand for the first, which has been in constant operation in the North Sea since its delivery in February 2011.
The winch package is designed to carry 50 tonnes of wire rope or umbilical and complements Cosalt Offshore’s full range of quality lifting products for the energy industry. It will be used by Cosalt Offshore’s experienced rigger teams to carry out spooling operations to remove or install large wire ropes on board client vessels.
Designed and built at ACE Winches’ manufacturing facility at Towie Barclay Works and comprehensively FAT tested on its 750-tonne capacity hydraulic Test Bed Facility, prior to delivery, the winch system has built-in heave compensation line tensioning and a computerised controls package.

Cosalt Offshore has nearly 300 personnel, including a team of multi-skilled engineers, based in Aberdeen and its operations at Stavanger. The company specialises in the management of client equipment and services. The portfolio of services includes supply, hire, examination and repair of lifting equipment, tooling and consumables, supply and servicing of lifejackets, liferafts, immersion suits and lifeboats and offshore examination and test services.
