Hyundai Heavy Industries, the world’s biggest shipbuilder and a leading EPC contractor, completed a key Gas-To-Liquids facility for Pearl GTL Project in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar on November 22.
The USD 2 billion facility is capable of separating, desulfurizing, and refining 1.6 billion cbf of natural gas per day to produce methane feed gas for GTL process and by-products including ethane, propane, and butane. It can also produce 140,000 barrels of ultralow-sulfur diesel, naphtha, LPG, and condensate daily.
The completion ceremony was attended by HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar; Mr. Min Keh-sik, Chairman of Hyundai Heavy; and Mr. Chun In-soo, COO of Hyundai Heavy’s Industrial Plant & Engineering Division.
Hyundai Heavy won this project in 2006 in association with Chiyoda Corporation as part of a USD 20 billion project involving 12 engineering companies.
“ When the Pearl GTL plant begins operating at full capacity, it will be able to produce as much as 3% of current global diesel capacity ” said an official of Hyundai Heavy.
