DSME won a new order for two pipe laying support vessels with Brazil based Odebrecht and France based Technip on 16th November.
The value of this contract is approximately 500 million dollars and these pipe laying vessels will be delivered in August 2014. Petrobras, the biggest company in South America, is the charterer for these vessels and they will provide service for the installation of pipes and cables under water off the coast of Brazil.
These vessels are 146m long, 30m wide, and are fitted with cranes and a large pipe reel which weighs 17,300 tons. It will be possible to install pipes and cables in depths of up to 2,500m.
As well as the pipe laying support vessel contract, DSME also received orders from Odebrecht for five drill ships and one semi-submersible rig. The two pipe laying vessels ordered by Odebrecht and Technip are part of the establishment of a joint venture that will allow them to enter the pipe laying vessels market.
This contract is worthy of notice because these pipe laying vessels are the first for Odebrecht. It was signed based on the owner`s recognition of DSME`s original patented technology and the strong relationship developed through the large number of projects carried out by DSME.
Mr. Sang-Tae Nam, the President & CEO of DSME, said, “ We expected additional new orders for offshore platforms, because a lot of offshore development projects are progressing in Brazil” and “DSME continuously gets new orders based on the trusting relationship that we have built with clients.”
This latest contract puts DSME’s 2011 secured orders at 48 vessels and offshore platforms worth USD 13 billion.
