Managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Javad Owji, denied western media reports on Pakistan’s withdrawal from gas contract with Iran adding the neighboring country is willing to buy more gas by adding an annex to the contract.
He said that, based on the signed deal between the two countries, Iran’s gas export to Pakistan will be operational in 2014, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.
He stated that the Pakistani side has requested for an increase in the level of exports to 30 million cubic meters per day.
“ Iran-Pakistan gas contract is an international contract that covers important aspects, so if each side decides to withdraw from it, it will bear heavy losses “, he noted.
He went on to say that, gas-laying operations had started in both countries and part of it has completed in Iran territory.
In June 2009, Tehran and Islamabad signed a 25-year agreement, commencing from February 2014, based on which Iran agreed to export 21.5 million cubic meters of natural gas daily, 7.8 billion cubic meters annually.
