UK: BMT Robotic Fish Returns to Science Museum

The robotic fish is making a return to the Science Museum in London as part of a robotics exhibition. The robotic fish appeared in a similar exhibition at the Science Museum for six months in 2010 and was extremely well received by visitors.

The fish will again be appearing in the museum’s Antenna gallery and is expected to be on display to the public until the end of January 2012. The Antenna gallery is free for visitors to enter and also contains a number of other robotics exhibits.

Visitors will be invited to learn more about the fish and also submit their comments using interactive displays set around the exhibition. Some of those comments can be seen on the Science Museum Antenna Gallery website. Information and also some Questions & Answers are provided by Luke Speller, Senior Research Scientist at BMT Group.

The robotic fish has been created as part of the SHOAL project, a European Research initiative managed by BMT Group. SHOAL aims to develop a number of robotic fish that will work together in order to monitor and search for pollution in ports and other aquatic areas.

BMT Group is developing the artificial intelligence for these fish that will allow them to not only detect pollution in ports and various waterways but also to work in numbers to detect and report the initial source of the pollution.
