As Penspen’s scope of subsea services grows in London, its Offshore and Integrity practices have teamed up to offer a series of specialist courses in Offshore Pipeline Legislation.

As engineers and consultants to the global oil and gas industry, Penspen’s strong subsea presence puts it in prime position to advise on offshore planning, hazard, health and safety, environmental and major accident legislation.

This the first Offshore Pipeline Legislation course to be held in the South East and follows on from a series of successful courses held in Aberdeen. The course will be given by Principle, Consultant Dennis Keen on March 15th 2012 at Penspen’s Offices in Richmond. The course will cover the latest legislation surrounding the planning, design, construction, commissioning, operations, inspection, maintenance and abandonment of offshore pipelines.

Dennis has 35 years experience in the oil and gas pipeline industry including experience as a constructor, operator and Safety Regulator with both the Department of Energy and the Health and Safety Executive.

Penspen’s Head of Offshore London, Colin Cross, said:

“ Following several pipeline incidents and events in recent years and ever more Independent Oil Companies looking to progress brownfield plays and enhance production from ageing assets, there has never been a more crucial time to be well-informed and prepared when it comes to offshore pipeline legislation. Penspen’s Offshore and Integrity groups are keen to share our in-depth experience in this area with the wider pipeline community, Operators and Contractors alike. ”

Dennis Keen, Principal Consultant, said:

“It is vital that those involved with offshore pipelines understand exactly what the law say and how the regulatory authorities interpret and implement the law. So often, people have an understanding based on inaccurate anecdotal information picked up “on the job”. This course explains precisely what the legal duties are and what is required to ensure compliance. Ignorance is no defence.”
