Iran has participated in the 2011 World Petroleum Congress (WPC), spokesman for the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Majid Boujarzadeh announced.
According to the report of the public relations of the NIGC, he said that an Iranian delegation headed by the country’s oil minister Rostam Qasemi has attended the 20th World Petroleum Congress held from December 4-8, 2011.
He went on to say that, every three years the World Petroleum Congress and Exhibition is held and currently it holds the title for largest and most reputable oil & gas industry gathering in the world.
This is the first time that the World Petroleum Congress will be held in the Middle East.
The congress is held by Qatar Petroleum at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) and will run until December 8, 2011.
He pointed out that, more than 4,000 delegates and 600 media from different countries will discuss all aspects of the oil industry, including upstream and downstream technological advances, the role of natural gas, renewable energy, the management of the industry and its social, economic and environmental effect.
On the sidelines of the congress known as the Olympics of the Oil and Gas Industry, World Petroleum Exhibition is being held.
He stated that, Promoting Cooperation, Innovation and Investment, will focus the debate on solutions aimed at providing global access for all to reliable, affordable and sustainable energy in both the near and long term future.
To achieve these goals, producers, consumers, governments and social representatives need to work in close cooperation to develop innovative ways to find and develop new oil, gas and alternative energy resources, as well as set higher standards for wiser, more efficient and cleaner energy consumption.
