Construction of the 53m-long tanker Lerrix, whose role will be filling the tanks of larger ocean-going ships with fuel, will be soon completed.
The vessel will account for the biggest ship built on the Humber in decades.
Building of the stern section of the vessel has been conducted at Hepworth’s Shipyard at Paull as part of a £5m worth contract. The section will be joined to her bows made in Middlesborough, at a dry dock in Hull, during this year.
The two halves will be put in the water in February and the naming ceremony will follow the completion.
Hull-based fuel distributors J.R Rix and Son acquired the shipyard in the 1970s.
The vessel will be painted in company colors, with a green hull, topside accommodation in white and a blue funnel with Rix’s red diamond logo.
