Last Monday, the Town Council of Narragansett voted against the Deepwater Wind’s transmission line across Block Island Sound.

Council President Glenna Hagopian thinks they need more specification about this matter to make a decision. “ I want to see what you are bringing to the table before we move forward ,” Hagopian said to South County Independent.

The company has planned to connect the proposed wind farm with the 15-mile underground transmission line which would surface at the Narragansett Pier.

The Block Island Wind Farm is a 30 megawatt (nameplate) demonstration-scale offshore wind farm approximately three miles southeast of Block Island consisting of 5 turbines. The wind farm is located entirely in Rhode Island state waters.

The energy generated by the Block Island project will be enough to power about 10,000 homes in Rhode Island.
