Following SMart Wind’s Phase 2 Consultation Events held between 8th and 17th November 2011 and subsequent responses received following the formal Section 42 Consultation process which ended on 16th December 2011, SMart Wind announced that the Site A has been allocated as the preferred location for the onshore converter station.
Of the four sites considered during the Phase 2 Consultation, this was the closest site to the existing National Grid substation at Killingholme and consistently represented the least impact in terms of environmental and engineering issues.
The 4GW Hornsea Zone is adjacent to the River Humber, 200km South of Newcastle and 75km north of The Wash. The East Riding of Yorkshire coast lies 31km to the west of the Zone’s boundary and the Zone’s eastern boundary is 1 km from the median line between UK and Netherlands waters.
