Costas Fostiropoulos, founder of Almi Tankers confirmed intentions of the company to become a player on the market of liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping, adding that considerable number of projects in this area is awaiting implementation, Shipping Herald reports.

Namely, by founding a sister shipping vehicle, Almi Gas, Almi Tankers is expanding the scope of its activities to the sector of liquefied natural gas shipping.

The group proved to be a fast growing operator of modern oil tankers, providing worldwide services of oil transportation and from now on LNG.

Currently Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is engaged in construction of 10 suezmaxes and two very large crude carriers for Almi Tankers. In addition, it is said that DSME is about to close an agreement with the group on construction of two new LNG carriers as well.

In March this year Almi Tankers announced that it relocated to new headquarters in Egaleo, Athens.
