Statnett SF and National Grid International Ltd have awarded MMT (Sweden) the marine survey contract for the NSN Seabed survey, a power transmission link between Norway and UK.
Statnett and National Grid are jointly developing a project to construct a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) electrical interconnector between Norway and Great Britain. MMT will be performing the route survey for this project between Hylen, Norway and Blyth, UK. The survey will be performed April – August 2012.
The length of the cable route is approximately 711 km and the assignment includes geophysical, geotechnical, benthic, archaeological and ROV operations.
For the offshore part, MMT will provide geophysical and benthic surveys from MV Franklin. The offshore survey vessel Stril Explorer is assigned for the ROV and geotechnical investigations. MMT’s vibrocorer and CPT will be launched from Stril Explorer for seabed sampling.
MMT will use the survey vessels SeaBeam and Askholmen for the nearshore survey.
The work will commence in 2012 and is expected to cover a period of 5 months. Once installed, this will be the longest marine HVDC link in the world. MMT is looking forward to working with Statnett SF and National Grid International Ltd in this exciting and historical project.
